Most holiday destinations will have local supermarkets which will stock most of the well known brand of baby nappies; however it is a good idea to check first. Obviously you will not want to take your baby’s changing station from their nursery so a light weight, compact travel changing mat is a must.

If you are travelling with your baby you should try to keep to as similar a feeding routine as you have at home. If you are travelling abroad to a different time zone, you can make short adjustments to their feeding times before you leave therefore making it easier to adjust on arrival.

The first rule to helping your child to sleep on holiday is the same for a baby and a toddler; it is simply to make the environment as similar to their home environment as possible. It is natural for a very young child to feel anxiety the first time they are away from their home environment especially at nighttime. By creating a similar environment to their home you can maintain your child’s usual sleeping patterns and enjoy a peaceful holiday.

So you’re planning to take your first holiday with your young child? I’m sure by now you’ve heard all the negative stories: ‘It’s like planning a military operation’, ‘The struggle outweighs the pleasures’, and ‘It didn’t feel like a holiday, I didn’t get to relax!’
